Jeffery Brian Burton was born June 29, 1967. He is a native of South Boston, Virginia. Jeff Burton, sometimes referred to as "JB" He currently drives the # 31 Cingular Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. He also races part time in the Busch Series. Jeff Burton is the younger brother of Ward Burton, a fellow Sprint Cup driver. Married to Kim Burton, they have two children, Paige and Harrison. He ran his first race of the Winston Cup in 1993 # 0 ICT financial Ford WireMartocci. 1994 was the rookie of Burton in the Cup Series Winston. He drove the # 8 Raybestos Ford for Stavola Brothers Racing. He had a season-high fourth place on the way to win 1994 NASCAR Rookie of the Year.
Next year, in 1995, Burton had one top-five years, with a ninth place. He also missed three races and finished 32nd in points. In 1996, Jeff Burton is leaving the Stavola Brothers for Roush Racing. Driving the # 99 Exide Batteries Ford for his new team,finished 13th in the rankings of the season. His career reached a peak from 1997 to 2000, as he has never finished lower than 5th in the points classification.
He earned his first career victory in 1997, finishing first in the Interstate Batteries 500 at Texas Motor Speedway (NASCAR's inaugural race at Texas Motor Speedway), and continue to win 14 more races during the round four years. In 1999, Burton won a career-high six points and series races. His best points finish was in 2000 whenhe finished 3rd, 294 points behind champion Bobby Labonte. The following year, in 2001, Burton won two races, to raise his total to 17-year career, as he finished tenth in points.
In 2002 and 2003, he finished 12th and combined for 8 top-5 and 25 top-10 but failed to win a race in two years. 2005 was a bit of a struggle for Burton. John Edward Burton III also known as Ward Burton (born October 25, 1961) is an American racing driver from NASCAR, which has a total of five wins in Sprint Cup career. He drove the last McClure Motorsports # 4 State Water Heaters Chevrolet Impala SS for Morgan in 2007. He is the older brother of Jeff Burton NASCAR colleagues, whom he first clashed with their local short track, South Boston Speedway.

On December 12, 2006 Ward signed with Morgan-McClure Motorsports to drive the # 4 car full time in 2007. In 2007, Ward's performance was lackluster, with not asingle top ten recorded. On November 12, 2007, he was released from Morgan-McClure Motorsports so the team could "evaluate the performance." Morgan-McClure closed shop shortly after. Rumor has it will not return to Sprint Cup.
